Following three-quarters of a lifetime satisfying the demands of shipbuilding, oil refining, petro-chemical, food processing, thermal and nuclear power plant, mining and scientific community interests, while gainfully employed by various engineering and consultancy companies, Colin Campbell became Office Administrator at Trinity Presbyterian Church York Mills in mid-October, 2002.
Although Colin has a peculiar accent, he is usually polite, cheerful and helpful to those who contact the Church Office. On occasions when such is not the case, he claims it is likely not his fault. In various church incarnations Colin has been a church school teacher, a youth group leader, adult bible study leader, a Deacon (Board of Managers member) church committee member and convener, an elder and representative to presbytery. He was recently, for about five years, a member in an advisory committee of the Life & Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, in the areas of evangelism and church growth. He has been associated with Trinity since 1971, a member since 1972 and was ordained an Elder in 1973. Since October of 1999, he has served as Session Clerk. Colin has been, with a few disruptions, a member of the choir at Trinity since December of 1971 and although some might suggest it’s time he quit, he reckons he’s only just getting warmed up. In his day to day activities, Colin reports to the Minister and is overseen by the Board of Managers, Personnel Committee. If you ever wonder what he does all day, here is a list: Bulletins and Mailings • Produces weekly bulletin with input from Minister and Music Director and others, copy and collate and insert for Sunday and other special services. • Produces congregational mailings as required. • Produces annual report for congregational distribution. • Advertises congregational events through bulletins and e-mail. • Produces calendar of church events. Property Rental • Schedules reservations and property rentals based on policies as outlined in ‘Facilities Use’ guidelines, for both church and outside groups. Decision making responsibilities regarding one-time or ongoing rentals. • Seeks approval from Board of Managers liaison for situations that arise outside the boundaries in the ‘Facilities Use’ framework. • Invoices for rentals, including deposits, and follows up to ensure payments are received and go to weekly collections. • Advises Church Officer of special room set up requirements. Financial • Maintains petty cash. • Documents all offerings given through office, by mail, including post-dated cheques. • Liaises with envelope secretary regarding envelope requests, pre authorized remittances, any questions regarding envelope offerings, and any special offerings or donations that require special acknowledgement. • Handles correspondence and acknowledgements regarding Memorial Fund donation procedures. • Provides assistance to the envelope secretary as required. • Provides assistance to the Treasurer as required. Ministry Assistance • Provides support to ministerial activities as required. Food Cupboard • Oversee distribution of non-perishable food items to Food Cupboard clients, on behalf of the Mission and Outreach Ministry. • Advise the Committee and Congregation when the Food Cupboard needs to be re-supplied.
Perhaps most importantly, Colin is the first line of communication with the world beyond the walls of Trinity and he endeavours to do this graciously and helpfully for all with whom he comes in contact.
