Welcoming Ministry E-mail

Revised: April 2009

PROCEDURES FOR GREETING

1. All Greeters should be on duty by 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning. Please make sure you get your name tags. Greeters will include 2 elders, 2 members of the congregation and Madeline McLaughlin.
The Greeters will be stationed as follows:
1) inside or, weather permitting, outside the Centre Court door
2) in the Centre Court area by the glass doors leading into the Atrium (This will allow you to see anyone coming in through the Truman door or the north parking lot door.)
3) at the double doors leading into the Narthex (handing out bulletins)
4) at the double doors in the middle of the Narthex (handing out bulletins)
5) Madeline will be the coordinator and 5th Greeter. She will go where needed. Please check with her if you have any questions.

2. Very important:
a) greet all parishioners in a warm, friendly manner.
b) if you know that someone is a visitor, ask him/her to sign the guest book and
make a name tag for themselves. If possible, seat them with a member of the congregation.
c) seat any who may need assistance.

3. One of the elders on duty will bring in the Bible at the beginning of the service and take it out again at the end of the service. Both times he/she will follow the choir.

4. The 2 elders on duty remain in the Narthex throughout the service. At some point take a count of the number of people in the congregation and record for the office. The other 2 Greeters may join the congregation after the first hymn.

5. Gather in the Narthex, immediately after the sermon, in preparation for the offering.
a) with 2 members of the Board of Managers, take up the offering
b) when the choir has finished the anthem, the director of music will look to see if the ushers are ready and will then play the doxology (We bring the Sacrifice of Praise)
c) proceed up the aisle to the front of the sanctuary
d) after the minister’s prayer and while everyone is singing the end of the doxology
again, exit by side door and hand plates to members of Board of Managers for counting.
e) return to sanctuary for remainder of service.

6 After the service, offer to take any visitors to the North Hall for refreshments. Introduce them to someone and then go back to help tidy up the sanctuary.
a) ensure pew racks include 2 Books of Praise, 2 Psalters & 1 Bible (all facing right)
b) store extra books at the end of the pews
c) pick up discarded bulletins, papers, tissues, etc.

7. Please secure a substitute if you cannot usher on agreed date, and inform the church office (416-447-5136) by Wednesday, so that the correct names appear in the bulletin.

The “Welcoming Ministry” at Trinity is of utmost importance to our congregation. Your service is very much appreciated and we thank you for your support.
