A WEEKLY GREETING FROM YOUR CHURCH
WE CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR!
Coming up ... The 57th Annual Congregational meeting of Trinity Presbyterian Church, York Mills - Feb. 14th, 2010. Immediately after worship, followed by a toonie lunch!
Dear Friends,
Last Sunday Ferne used two poems as part of her sermon. Many have requested that she share them - so we are including them here in the sermon section of this week's e newsletter.
'TWAS THE MONTH AFTER CHRISTMAS
'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---
I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"
So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
'Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
FRANCIS DRAKE'S PRAYER
Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
Because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life!!
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storm will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push us in the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus Christ. Amen.
H1N1 Update: Hand sanitizer is available for your use. On Sunday mornings we will provide it at entry doors and other high risk areas in the building. At other times during the week, group leaders may pick up AND return bottles of hand sanitizer. These are available from the church office or the service prep room. PLEASE RETURN AFTER USE.

WORDS OF WISDOM
Let there be joy in our coming together this day.
Let there be truth heard in the words we speak and the songs we sing.
Let there be help and healing for our disharmony and despair.
Let there be silence for the voice within us and beyond us.
So let us celebrate the richness and diversity of life in the presence of God.
