Music is an integral part of our worship at Trinity. We are grateful to Lenard Whiting, not only for his leadership and enthusiasm in providing the music for these services, but also for directing the choir and arranging our Special Music Events.
Music at Worship begins with a short contemplative Voluntary. The service includes four or five hymns based upon the theme and church season, regular service music includes The Lord's Prayer, a sung invocation to the Word, a contemporary setting of the Doxology, a benediction and the Three Fold Amen. The services generally conclude with an energetic and dynamic postlude which ushers people forth to carry out the will of God (or simply motivates the musically challenged to wisp off to the coffee hour). The music is a variety of classical and contemporary tunes. Some hymns and anthems are familiar and comforting while others are new and challenging to sing. The twenty member mixed voice, volunteer choir at Trinity is a joyful community, helping to provide uplifting and accessible music for our congregation. The choir meets to rehearse weekly, on Thursday evenings for two hours, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and also at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, in preparation for worship. During the year, the choir participates in seasonal events such as the annual Deck the Halls Christmas Carol Concert and the Good Friday Observance and Meditation. Please check the Worship section of our website for a listing of special events.
Special music, musicians and singers are often invited to enhance our regular worship. This is made possible by the Paul Bartlet Music Fund - a fund established by the late Mr. James Bartlet and Mrs. Bartlet in memory of their son Paul. On a rotational basis with other churches in our community, Trinity provides worship leadership five times in a year at the North York Seniors' Centre. This takes place on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. and is warmly received by residents and staff alike. In early December, our Children's Christmas Pageant is presented at 10:30 a.m. worship, and again at the North York Seniors' Centre that afternoon. It is always a joy to see the children re-enact the Christmas story.
